Marcus Rashford is reportedly in line to be handed a lucrative new deal at Manchester United, as the club bid to deter potential moves from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The 23-year-old has made his best start to a top flight season with 12 goals to his name so far, and United are now said to be hoping to commit his long-term future to Old Trafford.
Rashford’s current deal with the club runs until 2023 with the option for an additional year on top but United want to improve terms on his current £200,000-per-week set-up, according to the Mirror.
It is reported that United are taking early precautions to tie Rashford down to a deal before next summer’s delayed European Championships.
United are mindful that a strong tournament from their local star would likely set Europe’s elite on red alert, readying to make bids with his contract ticking over into its final couple of seasons.
Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are said to be watching the England international and keeping a mindful watch on his contract situation.
United have Rashford largely to thank for their climb up the table in recent weeks.
Along with talisman Bruno Fernandes, Rashford’s goal-scoring form has seen United jump to fifth in the Premier League, only five points behind leaders Liverpool with a game in hand.
On Thursday it was Rashford who played an instrumental role for United as they came from behind at Bramall Lane to defeat Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United.
Rashford hit a brace to secure a 3-2 victory, with strike partner Anthony Martial also finding the back of the net.
The England star rose to prominence in 2020 due to his incredible off the field work, with tireless campaigning to ensure free school meals for youngsters during the coronavirus pandemic.
Rashford obtained widespread public support after personally taking on the Government and forcing a U-turn for the implementation of free school meals.
The 23-year-old was also awarded an MBE for his charity work, and has pledged that he is only just getting started.
In total Rashford has scored 79 goals in 234 appearances for the Red Devil, since making his debut as a fresh-faced 18-year-old in 2016.
